Westonbirt School Lacrosse Tour - Wednesday
24th March
Day 5: They will have the day
free at leisure, to practice, to sightsee or to take some
school lessons - American style. In the afternoon the team
will have Match 3 -v- Institute of Notre Dame Varsity at 16:00.
After the game, there will be an opportunity for some post
match hospitality before returning home with their hosts for
a second evening.
The tour so far: So far we
have stayed with 2 host families-both are so sweet and friendly
and showed us the meaning of American food-BIG PORTIONS!!
:) When we were in Virginia we went to "Old Town" and got
pizza and ice cream-whilst trying to confuse the locals about
our Nationality. The Brits pretended to be American and vice
versa, we thought it was hilarious but not so sure the waiter
caught on.
We went to visit the Washington Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial
and The White House. Only a few of us braved the rain to get
a picture of the white house, but it was well worth it :)
We all also went for one period of American High School Lessons,
which was so exciting and I think was the rare occasion we
were all excited to go to school! The American's loved our
accents and quizzed us on England.
Our lax matches so far have been tough against good opposition,
but we managed to hold out own in the second half against
a Jv team today, beating them 4-3 (statistics could be wrong....)
And everyone played brilliantly and has already improved so
much :)
Now in Baltimore, we have tried their local food-crabs-which
are DELICIOUS! We have also had "Pulled Pork Sandwiches" which
we are pretty sure is the nicest thing we have ever tasted!
Some of us even treated ourselves to "The Cheesecake Factory",
even if we did just have pizza! But the cheesecake was well
worth it! We are VERY excited about going to New York tomorrow!!
All the American's have raved about it and we so far have
about 50 places we "just HAVE to see!".
Enjoying America loads so far, looking forward to our next
destinations and games.
Diana Brain & Alicia Motley :)
Bargain Hunting: We've had
some serious retail with a great trip to the National lacrosse
Museum and a specialised lacrosse shop Sports Her Way - they
even treated us to pizza! today we headed out of Baltimore
across the Chesapeake Bay to an out let centre. We set the
girls a challenge to bring back the best bargain...........well
done Lucy who managed to buy a Calvin Klein cardigan for $10
reduced from $80!!!!!!
Back to lacrosse... MVP from the match against St Pauls was
Emma and MIP was Sophie. Congratulations to both girls who
are the Tigger custodians for the day.
We played 2 half games today against Institute of Notre Dame
and were decidedly beat against their Varsity. We started
like zombies but gradually most girls responded to the demands
of a hard fought physical game. We then went on to win 4-3
against their JV team which was fantastic. Our hosts here
in Baltimore come from a very different background from Alexandria
and it has been a mostly enriching experience for the girls
to see how different some families live, but we all share
the love of lacrosse and have managed to make new friends.
